Vice President of Communications
Jen leads Communications with a focus on storytelling in service of Arnold Ventures’ mission, managing a team responsible for strategic and advocacy communications, digital communications and publications, media relations, brand management, and content creation.
Jen came to Arnold Ventures from Starbucks Coffee Company, where she was Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of Starbucks Stories. Prior to that, she was Vice President of Communications and Marketing at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, overseeing all of Fred Hutch’s external and internal communications, marketing, branding, and government relations. Those roles came after a career as a journalist, most recently as Vice President/General Manager and Editor-in-Chief of NBC News Digital (formerly msnbc.com). She has held news executive positions at metropolitan newspapers including the Houston Chronicle, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle. She is active in industry and nonprofit organizations, currently serving on the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications and on the board of the Pacific Northwest Research Institute.
Jen has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Washington, a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and a master’s in business administration from the University of Washington.
