Mission-Aligned Investments

We invest to grow companies, projects, and financing instruments where the market has failed to adequately finance critical solutions. We are flexible in the capital tools we deploy, generally focusing on direct equity and debt investments under $50 million, and where appropriate, using targeted concessionary structures. All of our investment returns are reinvested into Arnold Ventures’ philanthropic work. 

Guided by rigorous evidence and deep programmatic and policy expertise, we support private sector solutions in the following priority areas: 

Housing

We invest in solutions that expand overall housing supply and lower costs. Our priorities include platforms, projects, and financing innovations that: 

— Lower the cost of and expand access to construction finance 

— Lower the cost of construction 

— Demonstrate the viability of supply-side regulatory reforms 

— Streamline entitlement and permitting processes 

Criminal Justice

We support strategies that solve, prevent, and deter crime, improve rehabilitation, and reduce recidivism. Our priorities include innovative companies and organizations that: 

— Improve investigations and increase clearance rates 

— Improve hiring and retention of police officers 

— Reduce overcrowding and understaffing in jails and prisons 

— Reduce recidivism and support successful reentry through expanded access to health care, education, workforce pathways, and reentry support 

In our other focus areas, we invest in: 

— Models that support high-quality post-secondary education and career training outcomes 

— Innovations that help strengthen and modernize U.S. energy and transportation infrastructure 

— Solutions that improve the affordability of health care for patients, employers, and taxpayers while assuring quality and innovation
