Webinars offer advice on applying for requests for proposals on policies that work

The Evidence and Evaluation team, and select programmatic teams, provide a deep dive on successful responses to open RFPs.

As part of the ongoing Strengthening Evidence and Building Evidence RFPs, Arnold Ventures’ Evidence and Evaluation team recently held two webinars to help applicants understand the process and gain insight into the specific issues some of our policy portfolios aim to explore.

The first webinar offered potential grantees clear guidance on how to apply for funding. Led by Shrutika Sabarwal, director of evidence and evaluation, and Wendy Wei, evidence and evaluation manager, the webinar delivered an overview of what AV reviewers look for in grant proposals, including the sorts of research projects that would be good fits for the Strengthening Evidence and Building Evidence RFPs, selection criteria, and practical tips for applicants.

The second webinar offered in-depth perspectives from three of AV’s policy portfolios covered in the Building Evidence RFP: infrastructure, public finance, and career education and training (CET).

The infrastructure presentation, led by Jenny Schuetz, vice president of infrastructure, housing, focused on the team’s goal to understand how the United States can build faster, better, and more affordably, including projects related to housing, transportation, and energy.

The public finance presentation was led by Anna Tyger, public finance manager, and explained that her team is primarily focused on research related to federal tax policy – specifically international taxation, the child tax credit, place-based policies, and taxing high net worth individuals — and program integrity, which includes reducing waste, fraud, and abuse.

Jeremy Avins, vice president of career education and training, outlined the research focus for CET, which seeks to identify, expand, and scale policies and generalizable practices that improve access to good jobs, meaningful careers, and economic mobility. This includes high school-based models, postsecondary institution-based models, and workforce-embedded models.

Information on other policy portfolios covered by the Building Evidence RFP, including higher education and contraceptive care and access, is available here.
