Kelly McManus, Arnold Ventures’ Director of Higher Education, issued the following statement on the bipartisan Senate vote to overturn Secretary DeVos’ borrower defense rule:

At Arnold Ventures, we believe that a high quality higher education is the key to economic mobility. Ensuring that students who have been cheated by predatory institutions get relief should not be a partisan issue. And today, the Senate agreed. For too long predatory institutions have used specious tactics and loopholes to steal educational opportunity from students, especially veterans, low-income students and students of color.

We thank the bipartisan majority in both the House and the Senate for voting to send the Department of Education back to the drawing board to figure out a fair way to give these students the relief they deserve.

We hope that President Trump signs this resolution. We need Congress and the Department of Education to get to work, in a bipartisan manner, to protect students and taxpayers from predatory institutions.
