Statement From Arnold Venture’s Mark E. Miller on the U.S. House of Representatives Passage of the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act, a Critical Step Forward in Addressing Rising Health Care Costs

(Dec 12, 2023) – ​“We applaud the U.S. House of Representatives passage of the Lower Costs, More Transparency Act, a critical step forward in efforts to lower costs for patients, taxpayers, and employers. The bipartisan legislation takes a meaningful step toward addressing a primary driver of rising health care costs – the high prices charged by large, consolidated hospital systems – by advancing site-neutral payment reform and billing transparency. These policies help protect patients from unfair billing practices, where costs for the same routine services can vary drastically based on the location the patient receives care. The legislation also takes important steps to improve transparency of the prices being charged for care.
