The Laura and John Arnold Foundation today issued the following statement regarding the court order dismissing Collins v. Daniels in its entirety:

This is an important victory for everyone fighting to make our pretrial system fairer and more evidence-based — in both the state of New Mexico and in cities and states across America. Pretrial release or detention decisions should be based on a defendant’s risk to public safety and of failure to appear, not on how much money he or she has. In denying this attempt by the bail industry to prioritize its financial gain over the will of the people who voted for bail reform, the Court makes it clear that special interests will not impede the progress New Mexico is making toward a more equitable and effective justice system.
