Arnold Ventures released the following statement in response to Sen. Johnny Isakson’s introduction of legislation to address gun violence:

We strongly support the legislation Sen. Johnny Isakson (R‑Ga.) introduced this week calling for an increase in research on gun violence at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This funding will enable crucial scientific work to not only identify factors that contribute to gun violence, but also interventions capable of preventing it. It is a critical step in the right direction.

We owe it to children and families who are terrified of school shootings, law enforcement who put their lives on the line to respond to gun crimes, and veterans who face a disproportionate rate of suicide by firearms to find solutions that are backed up by strong science — solutions we can feel confident will reduce harm.

We have starved ourselves of gun violence research for decades and urgently need to make up for lost time. Sen. Isakson’s proposed bill represents important progress.
