Position Overview

Arnold Ventures’ Health Care portfolio makes health care affordable and accessible for families, employers, and taxpayers. We fund work across several broad issue areas: Provider Payment Incentives, Commercial Sector Prices, Drug Prices, Clinical Trials, and Complex Care. The team works with experts from inside and outside government to reform the health care system through evidence generation, policy development, communications, technical assistance, and advocacy to support policy change.

We are seeking a Director of Health Care for our Drug Pricing team, which works to understand the drivers of high list and net prices for drugs and biologics. The Director will be expected to consider the issue comprehensively including, for example, the role of the patenting process; the sources of funding and incentives for research and development; private sector investment in the sector; supply chain intermediaries (PBMs; pharmacies; wholesalers); and insurance coverage and prescription drug benefit design. The Director will be responsible for helping identify, analyze, and pursue new, high-leverage philanthropic opportunities, as well as managing current investments and partnerships. This position will be located in the Washington, DC office and will report into the Vice President of Health Care, Drug Policy. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Vice President of Health Care, Drug Policy to develop and refine the strategic direction for the drug pricing portfolio by conducting research and analysis to identify grantees and inform strategy; developing projects and policy recommendations; and developing and managing relationships with grantees, key stakeholders, and experts
  • Identify and develop charitable investment and grant recommendations for the Arnold Ventures’ Board of Directors; oversee investments and grants; and reflect on prior and existing investments and grants to inform strategy and future recommendations
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Health Care, Drug Policy and the Advocacy and Communications teams to support the execution of advocacy and issue campaigns
  • Collaborate with and provide day-to-day guidance for team members
  • Actively contribute to team meetings regarding projects, including suggesting ideas and brainstorming; and participate in meetings with government officials, researchers, and other stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • 10 years of relevant work experience, preferably including experience with federal or state policy 
  • Demonstrated understanding of health care policy and the prescription drug market in the United States.
  • Strong policy analysis and research skills; ability to understand technical and theoretical concepts
  • Strong leadership, people management, and relationship-building skills 
  • Exceptional strategy development, project management, and organizational skills 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate key takeaways to diverse, nontechnical audiences
