Washington, D.C. (Feb. 9, 2024)– Americans deserve an effective, modernized unemployment insurance program. That is why Arnold Ventures welcomes the announcement of the Unemployment Insurance Program Integrity and Improved Administration Framework by the Senate Finance Committee. The bipartisan package announced by Senators Ron Wyden (D‑OR) and Mike Crapo (R‑ID) identifies much-needed reforms to an unemployment insurance system that is outdated and prone to fraud.

Modernizing unemployment insurance for families and taxpayers is a top priority. Through grantmaking and research, we at Arnold Ventures are supporting work toward a UI system that is more fraud-resistant and better at delivering benefits to those who need them. By improving fraud recovery, enhancing data matching, and upgrading claim filing systems, the bipartisan Finance Committee Framework would be a huge improvement to an ailing program that was exploited by bad actors for hundreds of billions in fraudulent claims in recent years.

Arnold Ventures commends Senators Wyden and Crapo on the announcement of the framework and looks forward to further developments in improving unemployment insurance.
