Position Overview

The Arnold Ventures advocacy team strengthens the organization’s partnerships with federal and state governments and supports our programmatic teams’ efforts to bring research and evidence into the policymaking process. The advocacy team is responsible for working with the organization’s programmatic teams to develop and execute advocacy campaigns around our policy priorities; building, resourcing, and maintaining strategic alliances with engaged and influential state and national partners and stakeholders. 

Arnold Ventures seeks to add a dynamic, senior-level team member to build advocacy capacity and advance the organization’s health care policy priorities by identifying opportunities, making strategic investments, and providing expert issue campaign guidance to key stakeholders in order to advance federal and state policy. This position will be based in the Washington, D.C. office and will report into the Executive Vice President of Advocacy.

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Arnold Ventures’ Executive Vice President of Advocacy, other key members of the advocacy team, and programmatic team members to develop and refine the organization’s investment and partnership strategies to advance policy priorities
  • Lead a lean, nimble, and high-functioning team to deploy advocacy strategies at the federal and state levels
  • Execute and manage charitable investments approved by the Arnold Ventures’ Board of Directors, which will include working with grantees to develop strategic campaign plans, establishing performance metrics, and monitoring performance
  • Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders, experts, new and existing grantees, and policymakers
  • Engage in planning with Arnold Ventures team members to explore and develop cross-initiative charitable investment opportunities 
  • Ensure the successful implementation and integration of communications strategies and coalition activities within our health care portfolio goals and investments

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in public policy, political science, health care, economics, business, or law 
  • At least 15 years of relevant senior-level experience 
  • Proven ability to craft and execute high-impact campaign strategies at the federal or state level
  • Demonstrated success managing grassroots strategies, field organization, and digital campaigns
  • Experience supporting policy advocacy and lobbying, working in legislative or executive branch offices on public policy issues at the federal or state level
  • Experience building and managing coalitions and strategic relationships with diverse groups and interests
  • Knowledgeable of federal and state policymaking systems, processes, and political activity reporting requirements
  • Independent and creative thinker that uses a strategic, entrepreneurial approach to developing advocacy solutions
  • Strong leadership and management skills, and develops a highly motivating atmosphere in which team members feel energized, engaged and enthusiastic about achieving goals
