Position Overview

Arnold Ventures' Programs team drives strategy development and execution in a wide range of targeted policy areas including Higher Education, Opioids, and Contraceptive Choice & Access, as well as in newer exploratory areas. We are seeking a Director of New Programs to help Arnold Ventures continue to expand its reach and impact. This individual will drive the identification and development of new issue areas outside Arnold Ventures' current scope, take the lead on managing a portfolio of grants in targeted areas, and partner closely with the Vice President of Programs on other strategic initiatives in support of Arnold Ventures' mission.

Core Responsibilities

  • Drive identification and strategy development of new policy areas for Arnold Ventures, in partnership with the Vice President of Programs and Arnold Ventures' Board of Directors
  • Identify, develop, and present charitable investment/grant recommendations that are aligned with Arnold Ventures' strategies to Arnold Ventures' Board of Directors
  • Oversee and manage a portfolio of charitable investments; work with grantees to develop strategic plans, establish success metrics, and monitor performance; use learnings to inform new investment recommendations
  • Partner with Vice President of Programs on other strategic initiatives
  • Collaborate with other Arnold Ventures teams to explore and develop cross-initiative opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree(s) in public policy, economics, law, business and management, or other related fields
  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience; experience in consulting or entrepreneurial ventures are preferred
  • Proven commitment to and passion for social impact and public service
  • Successful track record of developing and executing on strategies to drive change

  • Strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to make an impact quickly – rapidly gets up to speed on new issues and confidently develop recommendations on a wide range of topics

  • Experience and familiarity with a range of policy issues and/or the policymaking process
  • Ability to develop, engage, and collaborate with a strong network of organizations and experts working on multiple policy issues
  • Capacity to effectively prioritize and work simultaneously on multiple projects

  • Intellectually curious, open-minded, and objective
